The progress of frontier AI, like GPT-Pro, on hard mathematics marks a quiet but significant shift—from models that are merely fluent with language to models that can genuinely reason. By thinking through problems at length and searching across possible approaches, today’s leading systems are now tackling proofs and competition problems that were long assumed to require deep human creativity. Each new result seems to push the perceived ceiling on machine reasoning a little higher.
